Privacy Policy..

Effective 22 April 2026 · An account of how Consumers Voice Ghana collects, uses, holds, and protects personal data under the Ghana Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

Who we are

Consumers Voice Ghana ("we", "us", "our") is a data controller registered with the Data Protection Commission of Ghana under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). Our Data Protection Officer is reachable at [email protected].

What personal data we collect

From consumer voice-out submissions

Name (optional), email (required for verification), experience details, company named, category, timestamp, IP address (for duplicate detection), and consent preferences (whether the submission may be anonymously quoted).

From companies entering awards

Company registration details, tax identification, contact person details (name, role, email, phone), website, sector information, and declared conflicts. These are provided by the company in the course of entering the awards cycle.

From nominations

Nominator name, email, relationship to the nominee, nominee company details, and nomination reasoning.

From website visitors

Anonymised IP address, device type, browser type, pages viewed, referring URL, and country-level location. We do not run behavioural advertising trackers, social-media pixels, or cross-site tracking.

How we use this data

  • To compile research for the Top 3 Ghana Award System
  • To verify the authenticity of submissions (through email verification, duplicate detection, and — where required — brief follow-up correspondence)
  • To process entries and nominations
  • To respond to correspondence
  • To meet legal obligations — taxation, Data Protection Commission reporting, lawful court orders
  • To protect against fraud, vote manipulation, and platform abuse

Who sees the data

The Research Office (Research Director and named researchers) sees anonymised research data. The Registrar sees company registration details. The Ethics Officer sees any data relevant to a specific dispute or whistleblower report. The Board of Trustees receives only aggregated and anonymised data packets during deliberation.

We do not:

  • Share voice-out data with the company named
  • Sell any data to any party
  • Share data with advertisers (we have none)
  • Share data with any Walada portfolio company, including when a Walada company is a rated entrant

We may share data only: (a) with the data subject's written consent; (b) pursuant to a lawful order of a Ghanaian court; (c) with the Data Protection Commission exercising its statutory functions; (d) with our independent auditors, under binding confidentiality.

Your rights

Under the Ghana Data Protection Act, 2012, you have the right to:

  • Be informed of the personal data we hold about you
  • Request a copy of that data
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion, where we are not legally required to retain
  • Object to processing and withdraw consent
  • Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission

To exercise any right, write to our DPO at [email protected]. We respond within 14 days.

Data residency

All personal data is stored on systems located in Ghana. We do not transfer personal data outside Ghana except with the data subject's explicit written consent or pursuant to a lawful court order.

Retention

  • Voice-out submissions — retained for 3 cycles for audit purposes, then anonymised permanently
  • Award entries — retained for 10 years (winners) / 3 cycles (non-winners), then anonymised
  • Nominations — retained for 3 cycles, then anonymised
  • Correspondence — retained for 7 years (Ghana tax and legal requirement)
  • Website analytics — anonymised at collection; retained 18 months

Security

Encrypted storage, two-factor authentication for all staff, segregated environments for research versus contact data, annual penetration tests by independent Ghanaian security auditors, restricted physical access to our Accra office, CCTV on building entries only (not operational areas), and a documented data-breach response procedure.

Cookies

This site uses only essential cookies (session continuity, accessibility preferences) and anonymised analytics. No advertising pixels. No cross-site tracking. No session replay.

Changes

We notify material policy changes in the notice bar on this website and by email to active correspondents. Minor clarifications are published without separate notice.
